# widget-must-export-config - ESLint plugin rules

This rule requires widget files to export a named `config` initialized with `defineWidgetConfig`.

## Severity

`error`. This rule is enabled in the [recommended](https://docs.medusajs.com/resources/lint#recommended) preset.

## What it Targets

This rule targets files in your project's `src/admin/widgets` directory. It reports a widget file that's missing a named `config` export, or whose `config` export isn't initialized with `defineWidgetConfig`.

The following code is reported by the rule:

```tsx title="src/admin/widgets/product-widget.tsx"
const MyWidget = () => <>Widget</>

export default MyWidget
```

Instead, export a `config` initialized with `defineWidgetConfig`:

```tsx title="src/admin/widgets/product-widget.tsx"
import { defineWidgetConfig } from "@medusajs/admin-sdk"

const MyWidget = () => <>Widget</>

export const config = defineWidgetConfig({
  zone: "product.details",
})

export default MyWidget
```

## Why it's Important

The `config` export tells Medusa which zones a widget is injected into. Without it, Medusa can't register the widget in the admin dashboard.
