# Product Hooks - Admin Components

These hooks are available since Medusa [v2.21.0](https://github.com/medusajs/medusa/releases/tag/v2.21.0).

The product hooks fetch and mutate products and their variants in the Medusa backend. To fetch variants across all products, use the [product variant hooks](https://docs.medusajs.com/resources/admin-components/hooks/product-variants) instead.

```tsx
import {
  productsQueryKeys,
  useCreateProduct,
  useDeleteProduct,
  useDeleteVariantLazy,
  useProduct,
  useProductVariants,
  useProducts,
  useUpdateProduct,
  useUpdateProductVariantsBatch,
  variantsQueryKeys,
} from "@medusajs/dashboard/hooks"
```

These hooks are built on [TanStack Query](https://tanstack.com/query/latest). Use them in your [widgets](https://docs.medusajs.com/learn/fundamentals/admin/widgets) and [UI routes](https://docs.medusajs.com/learn/fundamentals/admin/ui-routes).

## useProducts

Fetches a paginated list of products.

```tsx
const { products, count, isPending } = useProducts({
  limit: 20,
})
```

### Parameters

- query: (\`AdminProductListParams\`) Optional query parameters, such as \`limit\`, \`offset\`, \`q\`, or \`fields\`.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- products: (\`AdminProduct\[]\`) The list of products. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.
- count: (\`number\`) The total number of products matching the query.
- limit: (\`number\`) The maximum number of products returned in the request.
- offset: (\`number\`) The number of products skipped before the returned ones.

***

## useProduct

Fetches a single product by ID.

```tsx
const { product, isPending } = useProduct(productId, {
  fields: "+variants.*",
})
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- query: (\`Record\<string, any>\`) Optional query parameters, such as \`fields\`.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- product: (\`AdminProduct\`) The product's details. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.

***

## useProductVariants

Fetches the variants of a specific product. The first parameter is the product's ID, not a query object.

```tsx
const { variants, count } = useProductVariants(
  productId,
  { limit: 20 }
)
```

### Parameters

- productId: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- query: (\`AdminProductVariantParams\`) Optional query parameters, such as \`limit\`, \`offset\`, or \`fields\`.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- variants: (\`AdminProductVariant\[]\`) The product's variants. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.
- count: (\`number\`) The total number of variants matching the query.
- limit: (\`number\`) The maximum number of variants returned in the request.
- offset: (\`number\`) The number of variants skipped before the returned ones.

***

## useCreateProduct

Creates a product. On success, the hook invalidates the product lists, along with the inventory item and product option lists, since creating a product can create those resources too.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync, isPending } = useCreateProduct()
const handleCreate = async () => {
  const { product } = await mutateAsync({
    title: "Shirt",
    options: [
      { title: "Size", values: ["S", "M"] },
    ],
  })
}
```

### Parameters

- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`. This hook accepts no other parameters.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: AdminCreateProduct) => void\`) Sends the create request with the product's data.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: AdminCreateProduct) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with a \`product\` property.

***

## useUpdateProduct

Updates a product. The hook requests the updated product without its relations, so the response holds the product's own fields only. On success, it invalidates the product lists and the product's detail query.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync } = useUpdateProduct(productId)
const handleUpdate = async () => {
  await mutateAsync({ title: "New title" })
}
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: AdminUpdateProduct) => void\`) Sends the update request with the product's new data.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: AdminUpdateProduct) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with a \`product\` property.

***

## useDeleteProduct

Deletes a product. On success, the hook invalidates the product lists, the product's detail query, and the product option lists.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync } = useDeleteProduct(productId)
const handleDelete = async () => {
  await mutateAsync()
}
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`() => void\`) Sends the delete request. It accepts no payload.
- mutateAsync: (\`() => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with \`id\`, \`object\`, and \`deleted\` properties.

***

## useUpdateProductVariantsBatch

Updates multiple variants of a product in one request. The payload is the array of variant updates, and the hook wraps it in the batch request's `update` field for you.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync } =
  useUpdateProductVariantsBatch(productId)
const handleUpdate = async () => {
  await mutateAsync([
    { id: variantId, title: "Large" },
  ])
}
```

### Parameters

- productId: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: AdminBatchProductVariantRequest\["update"]) => void\`) Sends the batch update request with the array of variant updates.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: AdminBatchProductVariantRequest\["update"]) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to the batch response of the updated variants.

***

## useDeleteVariantLazy

Deletes a variant of a product. The hook is bound to the product only, so you pass the variant's ID when you call the mutation. That makes it useful when one component deletes any of a product's variants.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync } = useDeleteVariantLazy(productId)
const handleDelete = async (variantId: string) => {
  await mutateAsync({ variantId })
}
```

### Parameters

- productId: (\`string\`) The product's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: \{ variantId: string }) => void\`) Sends the delete request for the variant whose ID you pass.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: \{ variantId: string }) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with \`id\`, \`object\`, \`deleted\`, and \`parent\` properties, where \`parent\` is the product.

***

## productsQueryKeys

A TanStack Query key factory for product queries. Use it to invalidate cached product data after you change a product.

It provides `all`, `lists()`, `list(query)`, `details()`, and `detail(id, query)`.

```tsx
import { useQueryClient } from "@tanstack/react-query"
import {
  productsQueryKeys,
} from "@medusajs/dashboard/hooks"
const Widget = () => {
  const queryClient = useQueryClient()
  const refreshProduct = (id: string) => {
    queryClient.invalidateQueries({
      queryKey: productsQueryKeys.detail(id),
    })
  }
  // ...
}
```

***

## variantsQueryKeys

A TanStack Query key factory for the variants of a product, which is the factory that `useProductVariants` uses. It's separate from `productVariantQueryKeys`, which the [product variant hooks](https://docs.medusajs.com/resources/admin-components/hooks/product-variants) use.

```tsx
import { useQueryClient } from "@tanstack/react-query"
import {
  variantsQueryKeys,
} from "@medusajs/dashboard/hooks"
const Widget = () => {
  const queryClient = useQueryClient()
  const refreshVariants = () => {
    queryClient.invalidateQueries({
      queryKey: variantsQueryKeys.lists(),
    })
  }
  // ...
}
```
