# Order Hooks - Admin Components

These hooks are available since Medusa [v2.21.0](https://github.com/medusajs/medusa/releases/tag/v2.21.0).

The order hooks fetch an order, its changes, and its preview from the Medusa backend. They also update an order or request an order edit.

```tsx
import {
  ordersQueryKeys,
  useOrder,
  useOrderChanges,
  useOrderPreview,
  useRequestOrderEdit,
  useUpdateOrder,
} from "@medusajs/dashboard/hooks"
```

These hooks are built on [TanStack Query](https://tanstack.com/query/latest). Use them in your [widgets](https://docs.medusajs.com/learn/fundamentals/admin/widgets) and [UI routes](https://docs.medusajs.com/learn/fundamentals/admin/ui-routes).

***

## useOrder

Fetches a single order by ID.

```tsx
const { order, isPending } = useOrder(orderId, {
  fields: "+items.*",
})
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The order's ID.
- query: (\`Record\<string, any>\`) Optional query parameters, such as \`fields\`.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- order: (\`AdminOrder\`) The order's details. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.

***

## useOrderChanges

Fetches the list of changes applied to an order, such as edits, returns, or exchanges.

```tsx
const { order_changes } = useOrderChanges(orderId)
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The order's ID.
- query: (\`AdminOrderChangesFilters\`) Optional filters, such as \`change\_type\` or \`status\`. The query key doesn't include these filters, so pass a custom \`queryKey\` in \`options\` if you fetch different filters for the same order.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- order\_changes: (\`AdminOrderChange\[]\`) The order's changes. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.

***

## useOrderPreview

Fetches a preview of the order with the latest pending change applied, such as an edit, return, exchange, or claim.

```tsx
const { order: preview } = useOrderPreview(orderId)
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The order's ID.
- query: (\`AdminOrderFilters\`) Optional query parameters, such as \`fields\`.
- options: (\`UseQueryOptions\`) Optional TanStack Query options, excluding \`queryKey\` and \`queryFn\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useQuery`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useQuery) result.

- order: (\`AdminOrderPreview\`) The order's preview, including its pending changes. It's \`undefined\` while the request is loading.

***

## useUpdateOrder

Updates an order. On success, the hook invalidates the order's detail and changes queries.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync, isPending } = useUpdateOrder(orderId)
const handleUpdate = async () => {
  await mutateAsync({
    email: "customer@example.com",
  })
}
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The order's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: AdminUpdateOrder) => void\`) Sends the update request with the order's new data.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: AdminUpdateOrder) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with an \`order\` property.

***

## useRequestOrderEdit

Requests an order edit, which moves the order edit into a requested state for confirmation. On success, the hook invalidates the order's details, preview, changes, and line items queries.

```tsx
const { mutateAsync } = useRequestOrderEdit(orderId)
const handleRequest = async () => {
  const { order_preview } = await mutateAsync({})
}
```

### Parameters

- id: (\`string\`) The order's ID.
- options: (\`UseMutationOptions\`) Optional TanStack mutation options, such as \`onSuccess\` or \`onError\`.

### Returns

Along with the following, the hook returns the rest of TanStack Query's [`useMutation`](https://tanstack.com/query/latest/docs/framework/react/reference/useMutation) result.

- mutate: (\`(payload: AdminRequestOrderEdit) => void\`) Sends the request order edit request.
- mutateAsync: (\`(payload: AdminRequestOrderEdit) => Promise\`) The promise-based version of \`mutate\`. It resolves to an object with an \`order\_preview\` property.

## ordersQueryKeys

A TanStack Query key factory for order queries. Besides `all`, `lists()`, `list(query)`, `details()`, and `detail(id, query)`, it adds the order-specific keys `preview(id)`, `changes(id)`, `lineItems(id, query)`, and `shippingOptions(id)`.

```tsx
import { useQueryClient } from "@tanstack/react-query"
import { ordersQueryKeys } from "@medusajs/dashboard/hooks"
const Widget = () => {
  const queryClient = useQueryClient()
  const refreshPreview = (id: string) => {
    queryClient.invalidateQueries({
      queryKey: ordersQueryKeys.preview(id),
    })
  }
  // ...
}
```
